Conveniently located in Syosset, New York, Culinary Academy of Long Island offers career-focused programs and flexible class schedules to fit students’ busy lives. The instructors at CALI are caring professionals who bring real-world experience to the classroom. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify, and our placement assistance programs are designed to help our grads launch their careers.
 
At the Culinary Academy of Long Island, students “learn by doing” in facilities and with equipment similar to what they can expect to find on the job. CALI is a place where creativity meets the art of food preparation, in a supportive learning environment with small classes and dedicated instructors.
 
Programs
 
• Professional Cooking
 
The program prepares students for careers in restaurants, corporate food service departments, bakeries, health-related institutions, and catering companies. Entry-level positions for qualified graduates may include sous chef, baker, short-order cook, or line cook.
 
• Professional Pastry and Baking Arts
 
The program includes baking and pastry production, as well as advanced techniques such as artisan and specialty breads, specialty cakes and pastries, and advanced dessert presentation. Low-fat, low-sugar, and low-carb health-conscious desserts are included. Successful graduates are qualified to work at a variety of entry-level positions in food service establishments including wholesale and retail bakeries, country clubs, hotels, caterers, cruise lines, and restaurants.
 
• Commercial Cooking
 
The program includes food preparation, catering, skills development, and quantity food production. A special internship helps graduates prepare for a rewarding entry-level position in the culinary arts.
 
• Hotel Management
 
The program’s curriculum is built around the concept that first-class service is the graduate’s ultimate goal. The program covers the right balance between business and pleasure, and combines people skills with bottom-line business training.
 
 
Continuing Education Programs
 
• Baking and Pastry Arts I*
 
The program is designed to provide a varied approach to the art of baking and pastry creation, and emphasizes the techniques of baking bread, candies, cakes, pies, rolls, and pastries. A special focus is paid to the art of decorating cakes with flowers, designs, and figures to create a professional-looking product.
 
• Baking and Pastry Arts II*
 
The program is designed to continue the curriculum introduced in Baking and Pastry Arts I. This program focuses on producing specialty cakes and desserts, and covers techniques for dessert menu planning and costing. The program also offers practical experience in preparing and presenting many restaurant and bakeshop items.

Accreditation and Approvals
 
The Culinary Academy of Long Island, Inc. is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). CALI is approved by the New York State Department of Education, and approved for Veterans Training, I-20 Status, Job Training Partnership Act, Suffolk County Dept of Labor, and VESID.
 
Financial Aid
 
Financial assistance is available to those who qualify, and we encourage applicants to explore their opportunities. Culinary Academy participates in the Title IV Federal Student Financial Assistance Programs (FPELL, FFELP Stafford Loans, and Federal PLUS Loans), is approved by the New York State Education Department for the training of veterans, and is accepted for referrals under VESID and JTPA.
 
Placement Assistance
 
At CALI, our cooking programs include career preparation sessions to review hiring procedures, to help students prepare their résumés, and improve their employment interview skills. While we cannot guarantee employment to any graduate, we make every effort to help our graduates to find appropriate entry-level opportunities.
