From fast food to gourmet dining, people need to eat! Culinary arts may be just the flavor your career choice needs. Opportunities range from small neighborhood restaurants with one cook all the way to four-star hotel restaurants with a staffs of hundreds of chefs, assistants, and service personnel. Institution and cafeteria cooks work in schools, cafeterias, hospitals, and businesses. There are even private household cooks whoprepare meals in private homes.

When hiring chefs and others in advanced cooking positions, employers often prefer applicants who have training after high school. How about job prospects? According to the U.S. government, opportunities for chefs, cooks, and food preparation workers will be plentiful from 2006 through 2016. For some segments, including food preparation workers and those involved with preparing meals-to-go, job opportunities will increase faster than average.*

Many chefs, cooks and food preparation workers enjoy the sweet taste of career success. Check out the culinary arts programs on Education-For-Careers, and you may be on your way to cooking up a rewarding new career.
