Medical Assisting
The demand for medical assistants is growing. According to the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Handbook, employment of medical assistants is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2010 as the health services industry expands.
The objective of the Fortis College Medical Assisting program is to help students acquire entry-level skills and become competent in a variety of laboratory techniques and medical office procedures performed under the supervision of a physician. The Fortis College Medical Assistant program provides students with hands-on experience in performing both clinical and administrative tasks as well as training in interaction with patients and doctors.
Medical Billing and Coding
According to the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Handbook, employment for medical billing & coding personnel is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2010 as the health services industry expands.
Entry-level Medical Billing and Coding workers need to be practical, logical, organized, meticulous, and neat. They also need to have the ability to work independently and be self-motivated. The Medical Billing and Coding program focuses on preparing students with lectures, demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and group & individual projects.
Dental Assistant
The objective of the Fortis College Dental Assistant program is to provide entry-level skills in a variety of dental office laboratory techniques and procedures. At FortisCollege, students are provided with hands-on techniques and strategies to work in the treatment or operation room directly with the dentist.
As part of the Fortis College Dental Assistant curriculum, students are required to participate in Live Patient Dental Screening/Radiography Clinics. These clinics are conducted under the direct supervision of a Board Licensed Dentist.
Medical Business & Clinical Specialist
The Medical Business & Clinical Specialist program offers both the knowledge and hands-on skills to perform proficiently in a variety of entry level medical positions. The Medical Business and Clinical Specialist focus provides an opportunity to earn an Associate in Occupational Studies degree in both the business and medical fields. This program adds management skills and professional development to the technical skills that are presented in the Medical Assisting diploma program.
The Medical Business and Clinical Specialist program offers students the chance to learn how to ensure quality care for patients and implement quality standards in a hospital and clinical area.
Medical Office Specialist
Graduates of this program are qualified to perform administrative tasks such as keyboarding, hospital billing, word processing, medical billing and coding, collections, medical claims processing and examination, and follow-up on delinquent claims process. The program also includes an introduction to reports on in-patient accounting procedures, triage, operative and medical, and general office procedures.
Massage Therapy
The program offers the basic understanding of the fundamentals of massage. The graduate is prepared to enter the massage industry with classroom instruction and hands-on experience in anatomy, Swedish techniques, pathology, physiology, and kinesiology.
Court Reporter
The program is designed to prepare the graduate to qualify and to become certified as a court reporter. It offers a sound theory background and a goal of machine shorthand speeds up to 225 words per minute. The Court Reporting program follows the standards set by the National Court Reporters Association.
Heating, Ventiliation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
Heating and air-conditioning systems control the temperature, humidity, and the total air quality in residential, commercial, industrial and other buildings. Refrigeration systems make it possible to store and transport food, medicine, and other perishable items. Heating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers--also called technicians--install, maintain, and repair such systems. Because heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems are often referred to as HVACR systems; these workers also may be called HVACR technicians.
Paralegal
Paralegals are a distinct group of professionals who serve an integral role in the delivery of legal services. They are employed in all areas where legal work is performed, including law firms, banks, corporations, insurance agencies, legal clinics, courts, governmental agencies, real estate offices, title companies, accounting firms and legal aid offices.
Emergency Medical Services, Paramedic
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a critical part of the the healthcare team and the community in general. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to properly assess, manage, and transport patients at an Advanced Life Support Level of competence. The EMS/Paramedic Program will expose students to the skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at an advanced life support level with an ambulance service, fire department or hospital industry.
