Career Training Programs

Therapeutic Massage and Skincare—Associate of Science

This dynamic and comprehensive training program prepares students for careers in the allied health and spa fields. The successful graduate is prepared to take the Florida State Board exam, which is needed to become a licensed massage therapist, and apply for the registration necessary to work a facial specialist in the state of Florida. The Therapeutic Massage and Skincare—Associate of Science program is hands-on and career-focused, and combines two rewarding and complementary skills.

 

Natural Health—Associate of Science

The Natural Health program is designed to prepare graduates to perform dual roles in the allied health and spa industry as a massage therapist. The Natural Health program provides training in therapeutic massage with knowledge of the structure and function of the human body.  Students receive training in massage therapy procedures and techniques, allied modalities, hydrotherapy, law and ethics, the prevention of medical errors and current trends in the spa industry.  The general education courses and second year massage courses prepare the graduate with advanced decision making skills in various capacities in the massage and spa industry disciplines. The program prepares students for the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB) for licensure for massage therapists in the state of Florida.  The licensed graduate is qualified for entry-level employment as a Licensed Massage Therapist.  The graduate can demonstrate communication and employability skills and can apply professional and appropriate ethics to all areas of the job.

   

Aesthetics Skincare—Diploma

Training is provided in the traditional holistic approach to skin care, and includes instruction in the areas of hair removal, makeup and color analysis, mask and spa therapies, microdermabrasion, pressure points massage, enzyme treatments, body wrapping, and hot stone treatments. The Aesthetics Skincare Program prepares students in the state of Florida to become registered facial specialists and certified in body wrapping.

 

Therapeutic Massage—Diploma

Training is provided in therapeutic massage, with an introduction to the structure and function of the human body. Students receive instruction in allied modalities, law and ethics, hydrotherapy, and safe medical practice. The program prepares students for the Florida State Board examination for licensure.

 

Cosmetology—Diploma

Daytona College is the only school in Volusia County offering Pivot Point Education in Cosmetology! Our 1350-hour comprehensive daily practice of hands-on and theory comprehension cosmetology program presents all aspects of hair design and the basics of facials, manicures, and pedicures.

 

Medical Billing and Coding—Associate of Science*

Students are prepared to apply for entry-level employment as Medical Information Coders, Medical Insurance Specialists, Medical Information Specialists, Medical Insurance processors, and other Medical administrative positions relating to medical billing and coding. Students are trained to professionally perform office clerical/administrative duties, use coding systems to classify medical data, use computer based medical management software and industry wide recognized word processing software, work with third-party payers, use uniform billing practices, abstract data and code both concurrently and retrospectively with the patients care. Students take general and related education courses. Completion of these courses allows the graduate to apply advanced decision-making, communications, and management skills in various capacities as a Medical Billing and Coding graduate. The graduate can demonstrate various employability skills and can apply appropriate ethics to all areas of the job.

Medical Assisting—Associate of Science*

Students are prepared to apply for entry-level employment as a front or back office medical assistant in a healthcare facility. Students are trained to carry out clinical procedures such as vital signs, routine office-lab procedures, basic office diagnostic procedures, EKG, preparing the patient for physical exams and assisting the physician with those exams and to apply health-illness-health concepts. The medical assistant can demonstrate knowledge of pharmaceutical procedures, medication administration, medical terminology, and familiarity with applicable OSHA regulations. The medical assistant is expected to effectively handle administrative office procedures including typing, computer operation, transcription, filing, billing, scheduling, and insurance claims. Associate of Science Degree participants take general and related education courses. Completion of these courses allows the graduate to apply advanced decision-making, communications, and management skills in various capacities as a Medical Assistant. The graduate can demonstrate various employability skills and can apply appropriate medical ethics to all areas of the job.

Nursing Assistant—Certificate

Nursing Assistants play an important role as part of the healthcare team by providing direct patient care and emotional and physical support for patients.  This certificate program prepares the student for entry-level work as a nursing assistant under the supervision of the RN/LPN team member. Nursing assistants can work in a wide variety of healthcare settings that include skilled, long-term, and assisted living facilities, acute care, home health and Hospice settings.   Nursing Assistants help patients with personal care tasks, as well as transporting patients and providing support to both the patient and their family. They also monitor the patient's condition, taking vital signs and maintaining or checking medical and personal equipment such as catheters. Nursing Assistants assist patients with wheelchairs or other assistive devices and may lead patients in therapeutic exercise or other activities to increase strength and range of motion.

 

Home Health Aide—Certificate

This Home Health Aide certificate program prepares the students for entry-level work in a home setting under the supervision of a licensed Nurse.  Instruction is provided in the supportive services that are required to provide and maintain bodily and emotional comfort and to assist the patient toward independent living in a safe environment. The student will be trained on performing home health care services, assist with rehabilitative activities, following a patient plan of care, participating in a patients bio-psycho-social support, application of infection control, performing patient care procedures, and providing care for geriatric patients.  The graduate will be able to demonstrate legal and ethical responsibilities specific to home health aides.
