Online and On Campus

 

Kendall College's School of Education can help prepare you for an exciting and rewarding career working with young children. Complete your degree online, or choose to combine your online courses with campus instruction.  Kendall's Early Childhood Education program is designed with flexibility in mind —allowing you to  earn your degree while you continue to manage your personal and professional commitments. And, depending on whether or not your goal is to teach in public schools, you may choose a certification or non-certification track. You can also select one of two concentrations - Special Education or Infant/Toddler. Our innovative learning model features compelling coursework, expert guidance from Kendall faculty, and regular collaboration with colleagues. You'll even hear from master teachers through our Virtual Field Experience™.

   

Established in 1934, Kendall College is regionally accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. It is located just steps away from the heart of downtown Chicago, Illinois.

Academics

 

Kendall College offers four-year degree programs for those just starting out, as well as bachelor completion programs for students who already have an Associate’s degree or who have accumulated credits from another regionally accredited college or university. All programs are offered in online and on-campus formats. Choose the program that meets your needs.

 

B.A., Early Childhood Education leading to Illinois Type 04 Teacher Certification

   If you have already earned your bachelor’s degree and seek Illinois Type 04 Certification only, successfully completing Kendall’s online certification-only track will qualify you to apply for the Illinois Type 04 Certification.  You may also pursue a concentration in Special Education, which will allow you to apply for an Early Childhood Special Education approval on your certification.   Kendall's School of Education is approved by the Illinois State Board of Education for its certification preparation program that leads to Illinois Type 04 Teacher Certification.

 

B.A., Early Childhood Education non-certification track

   Kendall's B.A. in Early Childhood Education, non-certificate track, is  available for those who are interested in the field of early childhood education but do not plan to teach in the public school sector. Choose to earn your degree online or combine your online courses with campus instruction.  This program is designed for students who wish to work with children from birth through age 8 in many different areas of early childhood education.  Kendall's innovative learning model promotes professional growth from the very first course. Teacher candidates learn core concepts and explore ideas that help integrate learning into their work with young children and families. 

 

Type 04 Teacher Certification Preparation-Post Baccalaureate

   Kendall's Early Childhood Education bachelor’s degree program leading to certification includes field experiences and student teaching components at both the pre-primary and primary levels.  Once you obtain Illinois Type 04 Certification, you will be qualified to work with children from birth through age eight and to teach in public schools, pre-K through grade three. Choose to earn your degree online or combine your online courses with campus instruction.

Financial Aid 

At Kendall College, we understand that your education can represent a significant financial commitment. We strive to make education affordable, and financial aid is available to those who qualify.

 

Financial aid options may include Federal Pell Grant; state awards (for Illinois residents only) including Illinois Incentive for Monetary Award Program (MAP), Illinois Future Teacher Corps (IFTC) Scholarship, Minority Teachers of Illinois Scholarship, TEACH Scholarship; Federal Subsidized Stafford Student Loan; Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Student Loan.
